CLIENT PROJECT

Collaborative School Mural - Hermann-Sander-Grundschule, Neukölln, Berlin

BRIEF: Hermann-Sander-Grundschule is a public school in Neukölln, Berlin. The project should actively involve the students, and represent the school environment and their community in a diverse way.

CONCEPT: How do the students of Herman-Sander School perceive care? This is not a regular public school. At Herman-Sander there's a garden and a chicken coop which enabled students to learn first hand about care and the environment. The mural is a visual representation of that, created together with the kids, my project partner Sascha Hundorff, the school teachers and educators, friends and family. It was made possible by Machen Grün!

TECHNIQUE: Outdoor mural painting - 140 m2.

‍

Together with the school teachers and educators, we conducted creative workshops with the kids where they reflected about care in their environment.

Based on the kids' ideas, I created the final motifs with a diverse group of characters and animals blended with school elements, such as the chicken coop. The color palette was inspired by the colors I had observed in the school environment, making sure it would enable us to portray diversity.
